"I was really pleased with the speed with which McFarland’s arranged a visit, and at all times during the process; their professionalism was of the highest standard. I dealt with a few companies during this process and some of the firms would do well to take some tips from McFarland with respect to corresponding and communication.

I appreciate it takes a lot of time to put a quote together, which isn’t easy when they knew they were up against other firms with no guarantee of their quote being accepted, but the team made me feel as though my request mattered to them. I cannot fault McFarland’s for their communication, price or work and I would be delighted to recommend them to anyone looking for reliable builders.

We were looking to bring our existing kitchen and dining rooms together to create a single open plan kitchen diner. We wanted to develop a contemporary look with a new roof, a raised and with bi-folding doors.

In order to achieve this, there was a need to demolish internal walls that were in place and we also have to take out associated steel work. Other work required the creation of new openings for the bi-folding windows, doors and the introduction of a full-width glass roof. Work also involved bricking up doors and windows that were already in place, with under floor heating being commissioned as well. The project also included a comprehensive re-wiring of kitchen appliances, lighting and power sockets while decoration and plastering work was undertaken in association with the new kitchen.

This was the first building project we have undertaken and after speaking to many builders, we decided to call on Anton McFarland. This was definitely the best decision we have made and while their quote wasn’t the cheapest, the quality of work and value for money from McFarland’s made this the ideal decision.

I’m very pleased to say that Anton was always pleasant, polite and professional, while the fact that he was punctual and easy to contact was a nice surprise.

One thing that stood out during the quotation period was that Anton was very knowledgeable about the process and was very helpful in assisting us work out what was needed. Add in the fact that he presented us with an itemised bill within a few working days, and it is fair to say that the company impressed us straight away.

Once everything was agreed, the building team were on site within days, preparing our house for the work. Knowing that the process was underway and being worked on sharply was a great comfort, as was the fact that Anton was on the site every day to ensure the work was managed properly. As you’d expect, there were issues to resolve but these were all taken care of as and when they arose.

The work was undertaken over winter, and with no doors or windows at the rear of our home, we were bracing ourselves for an unpleasant experience. This didn’t materialise though because the team created a temporary dividing wall across the kitchen area, offering security and comfort. The team also set up a metal roof, allowing them to work in all conditions. I greatly appreciated this, ensuring the project stayed on track with respect to time.

At all times, the company showed professionalism and consideration, which helped make the process run smoothly and with minimal inconvenience.

The team were all pleasant and professional, with timekeeping not being an issue. I’m delighted to say that the completed work looks stunning and the whole family loves the new look work. McFarlands took care of our extension and they dealt with everything in good order. A couple of problems arose, not their doing, but they resolved the matters quickly. At one point there was a leak in the ceiling but the team were on it well before business hours in the morning and by mid-morning, everything was as good as new. They were also helpful when we changed our mind about the position of a window, when we were unsure about the height, and the team couldn’t have been more helpful.

It’s pretty clear that McFarlands have a great network of professionals and trade contracts around them, and they offer a reliable and confident service. The team is pretty positive and Anton leads his team in a very strong manner. We never had any issues with the team at all and we loved the work. It isn’t easy living at home when so much work is being done but even during this chaotic period, Anton and the team made sure that we were comfortable and that work was taken care of as quickly as possible."
